Robidoux Resident Theatre has worked for five years to develop
the Theatre Academy. Ms. Cheryl Wood is the new Education
Director and will oversee the three semesters of age-appropriate
classes that will be focused on preschool-middle school
students. You may call the office for a class schedule and
offerings. The literature based curriculum is modeled after the
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and will follow national
standards in the arts.
Our students explore and experience theatre in a small class
setting. At the end of the six week session, parents are invited
to come to the last class to see what their student have been
learning.
Standards:
All classes address national and state standards and contain
lessons provided by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Instructors:
All instructors are qualified actors, artistic directors, and/or
stage technical directors with over 50 years combined experience
in theatre.

SEE, SING AND PLAY
Saturdays 10:00-11:00AM
Objectives:
The child will use the 5 senses through color, alphabet,
numbers and animals to understand basic theatre. The
child will learn music through singing, body movement
and instruments. The child will dress-up to be
introduced to simple costuming. The child will learn
character through puppetry. At the end of six weeks, the
children will perform for family and friends.

BRING ME TO LIFE
Saturdays 11:00AM-NOON
Objectives:
The child will learn storytelling through age
appropriate literature. The child will develop a sense
of character in his/her community through friendship,
sharing, manners, and self-confidence. The child will
learn to use and express their imagination through
storytelling using life boxes. The child will learn to
recognize cause and effect, patterning, and strengthen
reading comprehension. At the end of the six weeks, the
children will perform different styles of
characterization for family and friends.

Fall Semester
ACTING IN SILENCE - MUM's THE WORD!
Saturdays 12:30-1:45PM
Objectives:
Charlie Chaplin, the great silent film star, knew the
importance of facial expression and body movement in
developing his pantomime characters. To perfect these
same theatrical skills, the students will learn the
basics of pantomime, its traditional dress / costume,
make-up, props, etc. The students will create pantomimes
with problems that are solved through a story with a
beginning, middle, and end. The students will create
original and instructor-directed individual, pair,
group, and musical pantomimes. At the end of the 6
sessions, the students will perform various pantomimes
for family and friends.

MAKE BELIEVE MAGIC

Objectives:
Students will begin to explore both verbal and
non-verbal expression along with storytelling.
Activities will allow them to express themselves as both
individuals and in a group setting. Students will
explore making props and costume pieces for their
performance for family and friends at the final session.

TURN THE TABLES WITH AESOP'S FABLES

Objectives:
Using Aesop's Fables, such as "The Tortoise and the
Hare," the students will continue to advance their
interactive skills. Theatre skills such as diction,
articulation, memorization, projection and body movement
will be explored in order to enhance their acting
development. The classes will end with a performance of
a story for family and friends.

HEAR MY VOICE: I GOT SOM'THIN' TA SAY!

Objectives:
Using stories from American Tall Tales and Greek
mythology, students will focus on the versatility of
their voices. Students will explore the difference
between stage movement appropriate for readers theatre
and for acting. Students will read pre-cut material and
will learn to cut or create a readers theatre script.
Students will learn about traditional and modern attire
for readers theatre. At the end of the 6 sessions, the
students will present a readers theatre performance for
family and friends.

IN THE JUNGLE

Objectives:
Students will continue to explore theatre storytelling
based on a pretend visit to Mowgli and his Jungle Book
friends. Children will express themselves as both
individuals and in a group setting. Students will be
introduced to simple character make-up and will continue
to create simple props and costume pieces for their
performance for family and friends at the final session.
To see other children perform, the students will be
invited to attend the final performance of the K - 3rd
Grade Theatre Academy class.

FINDING YOUR OWN PRINCE OR PRINCESS

Objectives:
From Into the Woods to “Frog Prince,” “Frog Prince
Continued” and other fairy tales, the students will
continue to develop their onstage theatre skills of
speaking and acting, as well as experiencing an
introduction of backstage theatre technology. The class
will end with a performance for family, friends, and the
Pre-School Theatre Academy class.

Spring Semester
ACTING FOR THE THEATRE

Objectives:
Students will work in scene study to develop their
understanding of character development, action and
re-action, internal and external motivation in comic,
dramatic and musical forms. This class will end in a
group project that will demonstrate their beginning
processes of becoming a strong theatre student. A
variety of appropriate level literature will be used,
such as books from the Judy Moody series. At the end of
the 6 sessions, the students will present a montage of
work or a short play for their family, friends, and the
K - 3rd grade Theatre Academy class.
